Shana Blackman, DPT is the owner of MyPT. Shana graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Upon graduation, her plan to pursue Physical Therapy was delayed as she began a family and pursued a career in the business world. After 10 years, she could not deny her passion for helping people and her growing interest in Physical Therapy. Shana enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011. Her career in Physical Therapy, began working for Aurora Sports Physical Therapy in Downtown, Milwaukee and has recently completed education to allow her to practice as a Sports Specialist in that setting. She completed additional education in Manual therapy, foot and ankle treatment, and Custom orthotic fitting and evaluation. In 2016, Shana became certified in Trigger Point Dry needling through IAOM (International Association of Orthopedic Medicine), and incorporates this as an adjunctive treatment to her techniques as a Physical Therapist.
Over the last 10 years, Shana has utilized a diverse approach to treating youth, high school, college and aging athletes alike. Through ergonomic training, hands on techniques, functional strengthening, stretching, dry needling, education, and neuromuscular retraining, Shana believes in addressing the complete patient. Shana treats pain and dysfunction of all areas of the body. Special interests include assessment and treatment of jumping, throwing, and running athletes for improving pain, but also for injury prevention and preparing the body for performance improvement.
The philosophy of MyPT comes from the belief that just as we establish a Medical Doctor, Chiropractor and Dentist, we should also know who our Physical Therapist is! Instead of waiting for “aches and pains” to require a visit to the Doctor, Shana believes in preventing the onset or progression of injury. By establishing your Physical Therapist, you lay the foundation for creating healthy and pain free activity throughout your life. This approach saves time away from activities, money, and decreases limitations to reaching your goals.
